the past 2 weeks

This was supposed to be posted last Thursday, but for some reason blogger wouldn't let me upload any pictures...for several days. Don't you hate that?

I love my doctor. She lightened my "bed rest" to just taking it easy...too bad I don't realize I'm overdoing it until the next day. And too bad that Michael took this as he doesn't have to do the dishes anymore.

While I have been "taking it easy" I watched these:

Liked it...

Loved it (mostly for one inappropriate line that almost made me pee my pants)...

Liked it/Borderline loved it...

Loved it...

Semi liked it, wouldn't watch it again though...

LOVED it...

Entertaining and clever, but it was just alright...

I also indulged in some guilty pleasures.

I ate this all by myself...
Along with an entire package of these, except the raspberry chocolate kind...mmmm

short version

Baby decided to knock to see if she could come out Wednesday/Thursday. I told her no, but she wouldn't listen to me. I think we might have a stubborn one on our hands. We spent a day and a half in the hospital on a practice run, where nurses told Baby she had to stay in for now.

Baby is still in.

We are back at home just chilling out on bed rest.

For the long version see below.

long version

wednesday. It all started with terrible, terrible back pain. Nothing would get rid of it. NOTHING. Changing position, laying down, bath, ice, heating pad, bath, hot cocoa, tylenol, bath. The right side of my back started hurting worse. I couldn't sleep all night. I called into my doctor, since I had a suspicion that something just wasn't right. But I didn't have anything more than severe back pain and abdominal/uterine pain, so no need to go to the hospital.

thursday. After a night of no sleep, I had a reason to go into the hospital--painful contractions 10 minutes apart. Great.

9 am I go into the Family Birth Center at the hospital. My pain was coming from where my right kidney would be. Urine test comes back clean--no kidney infection.

Still have no answer for the back pain.

Michael rushes through a test to come to the hospital. I guess I should be more clear in my texts than, "Having contractions, going to birth center". I guess that can come across as, "She's coming!" Oops.

Test to see if Baby is releasing the hormone that tells docs she wants to come out comes back negative (which is good...if it was positive I would have a 90% chance of delivering in the next 2 weeks).

They stick an IV in and strap me with monitors to track contractions and Baby's heart rate. Baby was happy as a peach the entire time and showed no signs of stress; although her head was so low it made it difficult to actually check how far I was dialated--my contractions were actually doing their job (just a bit too early), so they put me on meds to slow them down. I also get a lovely steroid shot in the butt so Baby's lungs will be more developed when she comes (and now chances are she'll come earlier than her original due date).

My contractions and pain finally subsided by about 3pm. Turns out all Wednesday I was having uterine irritability (like mini never-ending contractions that for me were worse than the big ones) mixed with regular contractions that I didn't notice since my back was manifesting most of the pain. As contractions got worse my back pain would be 3 times as bad (masking the contractions), as they got better my back got better. Good thing to know for when I actually go into labor.

Michael spent what time he had in between classes/tests with me. He also spent the night at the hospital, which was great. I definitely underestimated how important it was to have someone there. I think I would have lost it otherwise. He took care of so much and even brought back movies to watch.

I got no sleep again with all the monitors and nurses waking me up to adjust them.

friday. I can't wait to go home...until they tell me I am going to be on bed rest. Ugh. During these last few months that was my worst fear. Oh well. You have to do what you have to do.

They finally take those awful monitors off, and I get in a few mini naps. I have to stay until 1 pm to get round #2 shot of the steroids (shots have to be 24 hours apart). Round #2 comes, the IV comes out, Baby is still in, and I get to go home!

Preterm labor sure wasn't fun. I only wish I didn't have to do this again--and then some--in a few-ish weeks. I guess I don't have 8 more weeks to do what I want! I wonder how many times I have to go into the Family Birth Center before I actually deliver a baby. I guess the third time is the charm, right?

p.s. Thanks for the calls, visits, dinner, and just overall concern for us! We have wonderful friends here in Portland and wouldn't know what to do without them!

p.p.s. Thanks for everyone picking up the slack for the ward activity. I hope everything went okay, Haley!

i finally got him to do it

I love my bike.

Michael got it for me within the first couple months we were married. We've been through a lot together, my bike and I. Riding from Orem to BYU and back hundreds of times, up Provo Canyon, down Sundance, around Mt. Hood, on trails in Wyoming that were never meant for bikes, in Yellowstone, and so on. It's "women specific" design is awesome with narrower handle bars and a wider, comfier seat. I was able to get it in a small size frame too. I really do love my bike.

Only 8 more weeks until baby comes. 8 weeks to get more uncomfortable. 8 weeks of a cry-free home. 8 weeks to do all the things I've ever wanted to do without a baby. Riding my bike for the last time for (probably/at least) 4 months CHECK!

I've been wanting to ride my bike since the first sign of sunshine last week. Saturday was my lucky day. Michael finally gave into my pregnant lady "craving" to ride my bike.

Biking at ~32 weeks. There is 14 extra inches around my waist. Any guesses on how much bigger I'll get?

Ducks all in a row.
Couldn't see them? Here's a closer look.
And...an even closer look...

she bowed to me from the shopping cart and said

"Konichiwa".

Thank you little 4-year-old white girl for giving me a good laugh after a long day of boring, "necessary" shopping.

days like this make it so worth it to teach primary

Whitney and I team teach CTR 4-CTR 7. We have about half the primary in our class. It actually isn't as bad as it sounds--our primary is pretty small. We usually end up with about 10-12 kids in our class each week. In theory, this should be a piece of cake with 2 very capable ladies working together, except when several of the kids are (for the lack of a better term) "problem children".

Sunday is generally the day that wears me out the most and often makes me question why the heck we wanted to have children of our own in the first place. Yeah, yeah I know..."it's different when they're your own"...whatever.

After returning back to class from taking a "problem child" out into the hall for the second time (frustrating!), one of the cutest kids in our class dug into his pocket and handed me this....

A real live flower...a real live squished flower...but still a flower. It just warmed the cockles of my heart--whatever cockles are. It made it even more cute that he saved it...in his pocket.

oooo i can't wait...

Vancouver Olympics. TONIGHT!

For me, the Olympics always inspires me to do better, be better, and possibly take up some sport like speed skating even though I am incredibly unbalanced on the ice. (Especially now that my waist is over 150% its original size). They just make it look so easy!

I so can't wait! This calls for a four square championship! Ooo Four Square Olympics! I may not be able to ski down a ridiculously steep slope, be launched up 100 feet in the air, do a gajillion twists while grabbing my skis, looking amazingly awesome....but I can play some mean four square...let the games begin!
