Can you believe this?

I should've shown you the last couple of days--in the hundreds! Heat index for the day: 109, ladies and gents. Pure ridiculousness! I am so thankful though to now have a window unit for our bedroom so we can at least sleep!

i need a bookworm's help

...not literally...I don't want worms. And nothing says "gansta" like tattooing "book worm" on your knuckles...

So, I have decided on a lot of things I want to do now, every week, every month, every month for a year, blah blah blah. I realize it's not the beginning of the year, which makes it an even better time to make new goals.

Anyway. One of my new goals is to read more books. GOOD books. Ones that click their heals...like so...

No, my friend, not Harry Potter. (The cane is my favorite part!)

I am almost done with the Twilight series (not my fault I read them). I also read The Host out of boredom, and to my surprise it was actually pretty good. Read DaVinci Code, half way through Angels and Demons....

I really liked Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close--wouldn't recommend it for really "modest" people (I don't know how else to explain it, guess it has what people might deem inappropriate...). But it would probably would go on my favorites list...

I don't know...does anyone know of some good, more obscure, written-preferably-in-the-first-person, possibly classic books? I guess all I am asking is what is your all time favorite?

faith

One little girl in my primary class never fails at making me smile...or sometimes cringe.

A little about Faith...

She always gets sooo excited when she gets to say the prayer.

When asked where she is visiting from ALWAYS replies, "Africa". This could have been very true considering her grandparents are from Africa. I had a whole conversation with her about where in Africa... She says, "AF-RI-CA! You know...where black people are from?!?!" I finally had to ask her where she lived--"Oh, in Portland."

She loves playing with people's hair. She thought mine was a wig (she's African-American), and every week she would want to sit by me to pet me and pull at my hair to see if it actually was attached to my head.

Mind you Faith knows I am married and always asks when I hold other people's children if they are mine. The logic of kids...

Last Sunday they passed a clipboard around in Primary with Relief Society stuff on it, I passed it on, and apparently Faith didn't get to see it. I told her it was for the older ladies and not important.

"Older ladies? Like how old?"

"Relief Society Ladies....18 and older."

"How old are you?"

"Over 18." Not trying to give too much information away since earlier my class tried to get my address to come to my birthday. They were in shock when I told them I wasn't having a party--they thought I didn't have any friends. Haha.

"Really?!"

"Yup."

"Then why are you so small?"

We are so dang talented, Bethany! Have you ever seen a better bunch of homegrown onions?

I didn't think so.

Dear Michael

I am sorry that Puinea ate through the cord that makes your wireless mouse work. She's not very smart. I couldn't even train her to circle for food because once she got around backwards she'd get lost and wander away. It's not her fault. She still needs a friend. Please don't be angry.

We love you,
Julie & Puinea Gig

p.s. I know that when we got Puinea I said you wouldn't have to do anything, but you always help clip her nails. Puinea says thank you.

happy unbirthday to me!

Bethany (neighbor) and I went to Lowe's in search of something cute to grow our grapes on, only to find high price tags. We both liked the arbors they had...but they were $330 for a wobbly, stapled together hunk a junk. Lame. So, we figured we'd talk our husbands into building one. (heehee). I came home to convince Michael, but he was already on board! Sweeeet.

Soo...Michael built me a grape arbor while he was home on break! Only took him about 2 hours too!

Plus, the one we built is bigger and has a normal sized bench--not a perch. And I use the term "we" very loosely...

Low point in my week

I answer the door to find a man that could pass for being homeless--not only did he look it, but he smelled worse than if I had my nose in an ashtray in the middle of a fart parade. Good thing for the orange mesh vest and walkie talkie, otherwise he could've fooled me.

"Hi..."

He looks me up and down and has the nerve to ask, "Are you an adult?"

Serves me right, I guess, for passing judgment on how nasty he was. I gave him the are-you-kidding-me look and shut the door. Yeah, I know I didn't really shut the door, but I should have. Especially since I had to let him in to fix our cable, AND since he stepped on one of our wedding pictures while doing it. I held my breath the whole time.

And, no, I won't be grateful for looking younger when I am "an adult".
