if you ever thought so before...

...this definitely confirms it: Scarlett is such a Humpherys baby! She looks so much like Michael! The ears, the cheeks, the little round chin...I will, however, take claim for her cowlick. That's all mine!

Michael, Scarlett, and me--if you couldn't tell. ;) All around 3 months.

but i guess tall people make me feel small too...

Even though I do not love Portland as much as everyone claimed I would, there are quite a few neat sites within a few hours of where we live. We ventured out to Mt. St. Helens with the Simpsons on Saturday. It was gorgeous!

Then, I saw the before picture and felt a little jipped. I paid $8 to see only half a volcano?! Ugh..
{hopefully you sense my sarcasm}

Scarlett wasn't nearly as impressed that the top 1300 feet blew off in the 1980 eruption. She was more interested in her feet.

Snapped off like matchsticks 30 years ago.

Michael hiked Mt. St. Helens a month and a half ago. It was neat to see where he went, even though they hiked the opposite side. Note to others attempting the hike: bring sunscreen. If you look close enough in these pictures, you might be able to see the red spots on Michael's face that he either missed or rubbed the sunscreen off. Nice.

Nothing like a mountain to make you feel incredibly small.

...and many more

It was my birthday!

My awesome husband got me this.

While these people watched Scarlett...

...we ate some of this at a Korean restaurant.

We celebrated by doing this.

I know, isn't my cake fabulous? I think he's pretty stinking cute. I would have named him, but then I would've had a harder time parting with him. It's not healthy to not be so attached to cake...

Anyway, thanks everyone for making my birthday stupendous!

does everything have to be about you?

The world now revolves around Scarlett--well, at least our world seems to. So, you better get used to every post being about her, because she's pretty much the coolest baby on the block.

Scarlett was blessed in Thayne, Wyoming a month ago! Yikes! It really has taken me that long to get them up (but I do have a good excuse...these weren't taken with our camera. John and Ashley were nice enough to let us use theirs! Thanks so much!)

Scarlett is wearing the baby kimono (complete with sash that came from my mom's wedding dress) I wore when I was blessed, only she was a little too big for it. Exhibit A: gapping and showing the world her super model legs. It is kind of surprising that we have a baby in the 75th percentile coming from the two of us!
Top right recreation. We are missing three (?) from the actual blessing. And the top left may have been taken in the same spot almost exactly 4 years after this one...
Boy have things changed.

Michael's parents.

My parents.

4 generations. Carol Humpherys, Jerry Humpherys, Michael Humpherys, and Scarlett Humpherys.
This was the reason we decided to bless Scarlett in Wyoming! We got to see Michael's entire family (minus only a few), and my parents were able to make it! It was quite the house full!

breakfast of champions

All of our spoons were dirty, so the only other obvious choice for breakfast was a slice of Olive Garden's celebration cake and homemade ice cream. MmmmMmmmm.

sweetums

How can you not love her?

Scarlett seriously grows overnight. I wake up in the morning to find bigger feet, bigger hands, and poopier diapers--on Scarlett that is; I stopped using diapers...yesterday. Kidding aside, she is our angel baby. She started sleeping through the night at a "young age", was a good eater to begin with (otherwise I might have given up on the whole nursing thing), and is a very mellow/happy baby. God must have known Scarlett would be an only child if she was a difficult child...

I thought being a parent would be more of a burden, but instead I know this is where I am supposed to be. Very cliche to say but true. I've only felt that at one other time in my life--when I decided to go to BYU. (Wow, if I said that to myself 6 years ago I would have punched my conversewearingseminaryditchingthoughtIwassupercool self in the face.) Actually, it wasn't until I moved to Provo that I felt that way. I kicked and screamed all the way there. Just ask my parents.

Towards the end, I had many teachers there that asked me what I was going to do since I wasn't going through the BFA program like all my classmates (got my BA instead and graduated a little sooner so we could come to Portland). I always hesitated to answer that I was going to be a mom. I obviously wasn't pregnant at the time. I got some weird looks, disappointed looks, and outright you're-wasting-your-talent looks.

I wouldn't trade back my stretched out belly, my clothes and bed that have been pooped on (again, not by me), my once clean and organized house, the several hours a day that are now spent feeding, or my BA that never got put to the test in a "real" job. It's amazing how something so little changes your life forever. I take one look at Scarlett and know that I never wasted anything.

Happy 3 months, Little.
