Kiss it

Enjoying morning cartoons. This has nothing to do with the rest of the post, I just think it's really cute.

Scarlett hands me a ball of "pay-o" (play-doh).

S: Kiss it!
Me: Kiss it?
S: Kiss it!
M: Are you sure?
S: KISS IT!!!
M: Okay! Okay! *Muah
S: Aw! YUCKY! (scrunched nose and everything)
M: You told me to kiss it!
S: Yucky, Mommy! NO, kiss it!
M: I did!
S: No! KISS it!
M: I don't know what you're talking about!

So, she puts the ball on the table and squishes it

M: Oh, SQUISH it!
S: Yeah, kiss it.

Some other moments to cherish:

As Michael is watching TV, Scarlett stands right it front of it, pulls down her pants, and shows Michael her butt. All Scarlett says is, "See Butt-E. See Butt?"

She will often lean against Michael with her butt, then make farting noises with her mouth. When asked if she's farting on Daddy, "Yeah. Fart on Daddy."

We sure are raising quite the little lady...

today.

 Today is a good day.

I painted.

And painted some more.

And hung out with my bestie.

Tomorrow?

We do it all again.

We had a baby, shout hooray!

August Michael Humpherys
8 lbs. 20 in.
Exact same size as Scarlett, in case you were wondering
...and looking at their baby pictures, they have the same face too.
August just has darker hair, and a lot more of it.

I was induced at midnight, June 29th using cervidil. I will never do that again. I started having contractions after about an hour, and they weren't bearable by about 6 or 7 am, which meant no sleep AND I was only dilated to 3 cm. Lame.

I got my epidural and was started on pitocin 2-3 hours later. With Scarlett, getting the epidural was great, but it only worked on my left side. With August, they had to try 3 times to get that sucker in and I felt it every time...then, it only worked on my right side...and I didn't regain feeling in my right leg for another 8 hours.

At 3:30pm I was dilated to a 6. I was expecting at least another 2 hours of Desperate Housewives watching since it took so long to get to that measly 6. I called the nurse at 3:45 saying the pressure was pretty intense. I was an 8, the doctor was called. I don't really remember what happened time-wise after this. The contractions leading up to his birth were killer...the anesthesiologist came in at some point to ask me if I needed a boost, which might prolong my labor. The nurse said the baby could be out in minutes. "Like 15 minutes?" "Yes!" "No boost. Just GET HIM OUT!" August was out and screaming at 4:31pm.

August got a mini wipe down, swaddled up, and then, everyone was gone! A few nurses rushed in wearing masks and gloves, grabbed equipment left and right, and rushed back out. We didn't find out until later there was an emergency C-Section...and then two 10 lb. babies born 30 minutes apart (all different ladies, of course). The time to ourselves was actually quite nice.

Scarlett got to meet "Baby". (She won't call him August unless we ask what "Baby's" name is). The morning after we had August, Scarlett wouldn't even eat breakfast. She had to see "her baby". Plastic dolls just weren't cutting it any more.

Nothing has changed since then. She still wakes up every morning and wants to see "Baby". "Baby see, Baby see! Hold?"

Scarlett put on August's hospital hat and thought he might need a baby to play with.

 Salt and pepper.

Getting ready for bed.

Snoozin'.

Snugglin'.

Bathin'.

That's us in a nutshell. Minus the hemorrhaging that went down on the 4th. It looked like I had murdered someone in my bathroom...and in the ER room. The look on the hospital housekeeping lady when she walked in the door was priceless. I think she was expecting a spilled soda or something...like the one she cleaned up after my dad in the waiting room. So much "stuff" came out, it splattered on the wall...and the lady had to ask for more mop heads...with an "s". TMI? Yeah, I know. I also had no pants on going to the ER. Just a towel. Between my legs. And another half wrapped to try to save some of my dignity. Lovely.

Everything is somewhat normalizing now, if you can do such a thing when you have a new born and 2 year old who's trying to potty train herself while refusing to take naps.

I can't complain though. Life is good (but better with sleep).

My baby has been kidnapped by aliens.

Michael thought this was pretty funny when he checked on Scarlett before going to bed (we always have to check, because sometimes she's still awake just playing the night away). She figured out how to make triangles out of her alphabet puzzle pieces....and then meticulously lined them up along her bed rail....

It was funny, but honestly it creeped me out a bit. Multiple things all lined up in the dark around a sleeping baby (or sleeping baby pre-camera flash)...come on! If that doesn't say creepy, I don't know what does.

In other news: it's getting way too hot around here, and Scarlett loves swimming. Wearing a pregnant fat suit mixed with sitting in 106 degree weather does not mesh well. So, we "swim" inside! Plus, it's the only way we can get her to take a bath.

This Wednesday we'll FINALLY have an induction date! According to ultrasound baby is supposedly not large, no extra fluid, and Dr. is stumped on why I still measure big. I guess we'll find out soon enough how big Baby is! Fingers crossed we have a baby before Sunday!

little picaso

Besides dressing up, Scarlett loves to draw! She came into the kitchen one night as I was making dinner super proud of this...

There are faces! I thought it might be an accident until she started drawing sad-faced "poops" at my parents' house last night.

She drew this one today, so I asked her who everyone was.
Michael and I are fairly obvious, but Scarlett drew herself HUGE! She must think she's pretty dang important! If you can't tell, her eyes are on either side of Michael and her mouth is the big line above my head.

Then, it was my "turn". Scarlett can be quite the boss. She had me draw everyone (I have to say, my upside down stick figure drawing skills are quite superb. Minus the fact that I have 6 fingers in this picture). I had her draw the baby. He even has arms and legs! And I think he's sleeping...

These little faces just brighten my day!

Mini baby update: 38 weeks along on Wednesday! I was measuring 40 weeks at 36/37 weeks, so I have an ultrasound tomorrow to find out why (baby is big or maybe too much amniotic fluid). Hopefully by Wednesday we'll have a date for when I'll be induced! But baby will be here no later than July 2, my Dr. is going out of town for the Fourth! Only 2 weeks left of life with one baby. Yikes!

Animal Excursion.

Me: Do you want to go see some animals?
Scarlett: WAAAA! (YEEAAHHH!)

So to see the animals we went.

We got a picnic lunch (subway) and headed on over to Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary, which was just a hop and a skip from where we live! At $5/adult (donation), I think it was worth it. It took us about an hour and a half to mosey around...and Scarlett didn't want to leave.

These were the "petting goats". I don't recommend going in. They are big. One jumped up on me like a starving dog trying to get my food. Then, I punched it in the face. Then, I chucked all my food as far as I could and got the heck out of there.

Awww. Baby duckies.

Sweet peacocks. There must have been a dozen of these guys.

....even an albino one.

Tortoise (bottom right corner).

Some black bird that semi resembles a chicken.

Ponies!

This llama didn't like us. Every time we got near it he'd give us an Elvis lip...

A NICE goat. If you want to see him, he's in with the donkeys which were my personal favorite.

Rolling down a hill after lunch.

Last stop. Ostriches. Have you ever seen these up close? Their eyes are ginormous (hey, blogger didn't underline "ginormous"), their plucked skin is just like a chicken's except 100 times bigger, and their feet were stolen from a T-Rex. Oh, and they poop super nasty.

Okay, I lied. We stopped back by this cockatoo because I wanted to take him home, and Scarlett was fascinated that they could talk.

The first time we saw this guy....
Michael: Did that bird just ask me, "What's the matter?"
Julie: I don't know.
Michael: I swear it did! It said, "What's the matter?"
Cockatoo: Hello.
Julie: Hello? Are you okay?
Cockatoo: What's the matter?

When we got home I asked Scarlett if it was fun seeing all the animals. All she said was, "Birdie. Poopoo. Yucky." Apparently the ostrich pooping made a pretty big impact!

big girl bed

We moved Scarlett over to a big girl bed back in February so there would be no attachment whatsoever to the crib once Baby A arrives in June. Yeah, I know. My due date is officially July 4th, but a girl can hope.

If you know Scarlett, you know she's the energizer bunny. She will not fall asleep anywhere except her bed...that was until we moved her into the big bed and she figured out she could play as much as she wanted during nap time.

Since then these are some examples of how we find her mid nap.

Most usual spot: right behind the door.

Where's Waldo.

Second most comfy spot besides the bed.

 Behind the door position 2.

And the best for last. Yup, she's standing. She was really confused when she woke up like this!
