The art of avoidance.

This monkey understands a lot. However, if you ask her to wash her hands or go to bed, she usually becomes temporarily deaf.

Case 1: Washing hands.
Me: Scarlett, your hands are dirty. See? Oatmeal. Let's go wash them.
Scarlett with arms folded: Pair ("prayer")
Me: Okay, you can say a prayer. Then, we are washing your hands. Done?
Scarlett: No! Pair!
I had to pry her arms apart to get her hands washed! And she doesn't even fold her arms half the time that it is time for prayer!

Case 2: Night night time.
Me: Scarlett, go give daddy a hug and kiss. It's time for bed.
Scarlett usually runs away, says "nooooo" accompanied by a scrunchie face, points to anything trying to change the subject, or gets on her rocking horse.
Me: You better tell him night night, you're going to bed anyway.
Scarlett: nacks! ("snacks")
Me: No, we already ate dinner. You want more dinner?
Scarlett: [scrunchie face] noooooo.

The best was last night when Michael tried to put her to bed. She screamed and tried to squirm out of Michael's arms, "Mommy? Night night?" (she wanted to tell me good night, which Michael let her), and when she's back in her room her last ditch effort: "Poopoo!"
Michael: Did you go poopoo?
Scarlett nods.
Michael: Is your diaper dirty? Do we need to change it?
Scarlett nods again.
Michael: You better be poopy!
She wasn't poopy.

What happened to the Little who'd just chew on her feet? Look at that innocent face!

Oh well, this one is quite entertaining! Plus, if I lose my wedding ring (or if she takes it off my nightstand), she'll excitedly go get it out of hiding if I ask her where my ring is.

The rising generation.

A while back I had a super annoying clerk at Walmart. If you go to the Centennial one, he's tall, chubby, red hair, in his late teens, and talks way too much.

Red-headed duffus: So, how old are you? Like 15?
Me: Uh, no.
RHD: You're really short, no really how old are you?
Me: Thanks for pointing out the obvious. I've been married 5 years, you do the math for the youngest I could be. Then, add a little more.
RHD: So, like 21?
Me: No.
RHD: I've seen you in here before, and I always wanted to ask if she (Scarlett) was your little sister or something.
Me: Nope. She's my daughter. And I usually get asked if she's adopted, not my sister.
RHD: WHAT?!?! Why?
Me: .....Because....I'm Asian......and she's....white.
RHD: What does that have to do with anything?!
*At this point I was wishing I had either chosen a different line or gotten fewer groceries.
Me: Well, usually Asian-looking people have...Asian-looking babies.
RHD: So?? I don't get it. That is so ridiculous! [blabs on and on and on]
Me: K, bye!

I really wanted to let it roll off my shoulders...his stupidity really bugged me. I figured to do that I wouldn't blog about it.

Until last night.

It was late, just got done with mutual, I would rather go home, but we needed milk and a few other necessities...like brownies...and reese's pieces...

I get in the quick lane (which was oober long). Get half way through and realize who the checker was. *Dun dun duunnnn!* I went through my options: 1) Get in another lane even longer than this with people who's carts were overflowing, 2) Ditch my cart and call it quits, or 3) Hope he doesn't remember me. I mistakenly went with option 3.

RHD: I think you've been through my line before.
Me: I grocery shop pretty often. It wouldn't be a surprise.
RHD: Yeah, you look just as short as before.

The End.

G'oss and Babies

Scarlett's new favorite word is "gross". She's quite unaware that it has an "r" in it, causing a cute "g'oss" included with furrowed  brow.

She busted open the door while Michael was doing #1, looked in the toilet, said, "Poopoo? G'oss!"

She also found our fake barf, slapped it on the table, and you guessed it..."G'oss!"

Anytime you talk about poop or something stinky or barf, or if she hears (or thinks she hears) someone fart/burp there is sure to follow a "G'oss!" from somewhere in the house. It makes me laugh every time!

Scarlett also loves her babies! She feeds them, makes sure they are constantly naked (the only clothed dolls in our house are the ones with sewn on clothes), wipes their butt, puts them on the potty, hugs & kisses them, swaddles them, gives them rides in her mini stroller, sings them "Teentoe teentoe" (Twinlkle Twinkle),  and even rocks with them in the rocker...and don't forget the blanket!

That's why we are so excited to add something not so g'oss to our family.

Something along these lines...

Still don't get it?

Arriving July 2, 2012.

The last few weeks have been...interesting.

Christmas Day: We get stuck at a gas station, because our lemon won't start.

Anniversary: I am so sick and barfy, I can't get out of bed. (But Michael brought home flowers and made me homemade chicken noodle soup...awww).

New Year's Eve: Michael gets sick and barfy. Only one problem: Michael physically cannot barf (if you are really interested look up achalasia and heller myotomy). We spent New Year's looking at Michael's gallbladder via ultrasound in the ER.  Luckily, we were in St. George for New Year's, so the ER wasn't as crazy as any Vegas ER would have been.

We don't know if he caught what I had and coincidentally found out about his bad GB, or if the symptoms of his bad GB were exactly the same as what I had a couple days earlier. Weird. We'll say goodbye to his GB in the next month or so, since our insurance kicks in today. Oh, the irony.

Although 2011 brought us a lemon car and all the above, it also brought Scarlett's first birthday, Michael's graduation, moving closer to family, a new job, and 5 years of marriage. So, I guess I really don't have much to complain about....

First photo dump of the year.

We went for a little hike at the Red Cliffs in St. George, before heading back home to Las Vegas after New Year's. Sorry for crappy quality...these were from our GPS.

Scarlett loved hiking.

"Cheese!"
She lead most of the way, except for the uphills and downhills.

Scarlett and Grandpa

So pooped, she fell asleep on the way home with her sunglasses on.
This was such a nice end to such a crappy-feeling weekend. We are now all trying to catch up on our sleep!

Worst tasting cookies ever.

We made cookies out of salt and flour.

We painted them.

We did not eat them.
(Even though we made them in the kitchen, put them on a cookie sheet, tossed them in the oven, then put them on a plate at the dinner table. No. We did not eat them.)

And we painted some more.

Painting is a messy job.

You can't have these.

We hung them.
I guess they are called ornaments, not cookies.
My bad.

 I took a bath.

The End.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

I've been wanting to make stockings for years. One year (3 years ago) I even bought fabric....this year I finally made a stocking out of it! It's the stripe fabric if you're curious. Thanks to Michael's niece for the patteren...now we have cute stockings just like her!

And isn't our fireplace cute? It needs some puttying and paint and baseboard on the right, but it sure beats this.

We luckily got my great uncle's tree passed down to us. They are just getting too old to put there's up anymore. I got so ambitious I even made a tree skirt for our new beauty. I thought it was going to be a simple project. Note to self: never sew anything round ever again. And use an effing pattern.

Scarlett is wanting on the computer to type up her post. Go to her blog to see more of our festivities!
